IOU Downhill Skiing at Seven Oaks...

2/12/05 – Downhill Skiing at Seven Oaks
Today we went downhill skiing. Seven oaks is one of the smaller areas skiing areas but also one of the only downhill skiing areas in Iowa. For a small hill it was challenging for beginners. I think we all had a lot of fun. We started skiing just after they opened. It was Stacey’s first time downhill skiing and she was sort of nervous. Melissa went the hang out with her on the bunny hill while she learned the basics. The rest of us hit the slopes.
It was a fairly warm day to ski and we didn’t have to bundle up too much. Most of us were able to ski together although we did get separated a few times. I guess that is one of the benefits to skiing at such a small hill. Everyone was easy to find.
We had no major injuries just a few bumps to our pride after a wipe out (well to my pride anyway). At least it was a pretty good wipeout, I slid quite a ways. We also talked Stacey into going down a black diamond (hard) and she also wiped out quite a few times.
We skied most of the day. It was cool to watch the snowboarders go off the jumps and rails they had on a couple of the hills. Eventually all of us except Mike got tired of skiing and decided to check out the tubing hill. That was a lot of fun. Anna, Dan, Greg, Melissa, Stacey, and I threw snowballs at each other while being towed up the hill then raced down. Someone lost a hat partway down the hill and it became a friendly competition to see who could grab it. It was the perfect way to end our day.
