IOU Cross Country Skiing…

By, Sara Hollerich

After some confusion on where to go skiing we finally decided on the Jester Park Golf Course. It turned out to be a pretty nice place to ski. The rolling hills make the change in topography fun and they groom the trails which makes skiing much easier. The one thing that could have made the day go better was the snow conditions were less than idea. The snow was very sticky. I actually saw Mike take off his ski at one point and rub it along a kiosk to get the snow off the bottom. My skis were much better but it prompted me to make a call to Active Endeavors and inquire about products to make skis glide better. Evidently there is some stuff that is almost like Teflon that you can spray on the bottom of your skis that help them glide better.

Jester also grooms some trails through their park areas and we took a loop that lead us near the lake. I think that was my favorite part of the trail despite the fact my ski hit a rock and gouged the bottom L . On our way back Melissa and I were in the lead and decided to take a different route thinking everyone would follow us. Finally, we called the rest of the group on the cell phone and found out they took the same route we just got off of so we ended up meeting them back in the parking lot.

We must have been quite a site with almost as many dogs as people. They provided a lot of entertainment and are always welcome at our events as long as they get along with other dogs and are welcome where at the parks we go to.

We skied several miles that morning until it began to rain and we decided to call it quits. We just arrived back in the parking lot when Lee showed up and Melissa and Lee took off for a bit longer.
